Council of Young
Filipino American Physicians
The mission of the Council of Young Filipino American Physicians (CYFAP) is to provide a professional and social platform for the leadership development of young Filipino American physicians and trainees, promote the educational pipeline, and partner with the Filipino American community to eliminate health disparities.
CYFAP’s vision is to embolden leaders to amplify the voice of our members, patients, and community. We will unify the diverse lived experiences of the young Filipino American physician community. We want to inspire every Filipino American medical student, trainee, and physician to be an effective change agent in tackling the community’s most pressing health priorities.
KAPWA pride in our people. Kapwa radiates a psyche and philosophy of noblest intention of being human, of becoming one with the other.
BAYANIHAN or the mutual uplifting of each other
PAKIKISAMA: emphasis on harmony without sacrificing autonomy and individuality
INCLUSIVITY: We will also need to emphasize that we are not a political organization, that we want to represent the needs of all Filipino Americans regardless of age, gender, national origin, disability, marital status, military status, migration background, linguistic background, religious background, political identity, sexual orientation and gender identification, socioeconomic status, etc.
COMPASSION to all members and the people and communities that we serve
SOCIAL JUSTICE and equity both in the workplace and among the community that we serve
EMPOWERMENT for career advancement, leadership, and community engagement
PAYING IT FORWARD
Our goal is to assess what young Filipino American physicians and medical students aged 20 to 39 value in a national network of fellow Filipino American colleagues.
We also want to learn more about your thoughts on resource availability and areas for growth for this type of organization. Responses will be kept strictly confidential and will help guide the Association of Philippine Physicians in America (APPA) in serving and integrating more young Filipino American physicians into the organization. This survey will take about 10 to 20 minutes to complete. One to two sentence responses should be adequate for free response questions.
